What the interviewer really wants to know
For a picker and packer job, the interview is usually short and friendly. The person across the table wants to know three things: will you come on time, will you be careful with goods and will you stay for more than a few days. If your answers show these three, you are already ahead of most candidates.
You do not need big words. Speak in simple Hindi or English, whichever you are comfortable with, and keep each answer to a few sentences.
Tell me about yourself
Keep it short. Say your name, the area where you live, what you have done so far and why you want this work. For example: "I live nearby and I have worked in a small shop. I like organised work and I can reach on time every day." If you are a fresher, say so honestly and add that you are ready to learn.
Why do you want this job?
Give a real reason. You may want steady work close to home, a fixed shift or a chance to learn a new skill. Avoid saying "I need money" as the only reason, even though it is true. Add that you will work seriously.
Can you stand and walk for the whole shift?
This is a very common question. Answer honestly. If you can, say yes and mention that you have done work on your feet before. If you have a health issue that matters, say it politely and ask whether a suitable role exists. Hiding it only causes trouble later.
How will you make sure the order is correct?
Show that you understand accuracy. A good answer is: "I will read the item name and the quantity on the screen, check the date on the pack and then place it in the basket. If I am not sure, I will ask." This tells the interviewer that you are careful and not shy to ask.
What will you do if an item is missing or damaged?
Say that you will inform the supervisor and not guess. Never swap an item on your own, because the customer receives the wrong thing. Employers like people who report problems early.
Are you comfortable with shifts and the weekly off?
Ask about the shift before you say yes. If the timing is hard for you, say so now rather than after joining. A clear answer at the interview is better than leaving after two weeks.
Questions you can ask
- What is the exact address and shift timing
- When is the salary paid and how
- Is training given in the first days
- Which documents should I bring on the joining day
Mistakes that cost candidates the job
Most people lose the offer through small things, not through hard questions. Coming late without a call, answering the phone in the middle of the interview, speaking badly about the last employer and saying yes to every question without thinking are all common. Take a breath before you answer. It is fine to say, "I do not know this yet, but I will learn it." That sentence has saved many interviews.
On the day
Reach early, wear clean simple clothes, carry your identity card and a copy, and switch your phone to silent. Greet the guard and the staff politely, because they are part of the first impression.

Common questions
How long does a picker packer interview take?
Often it is short, from a few minutes to half an hour, and may include a small practical task such as finding items or packing a sample bag.
Is English required for this job?
Basic reading is enough, mostly product names and numbers. You can answer in Hindi or your local language if the interviewer is comfortable with it.
What if I have no experience?
Say so honestly and show that you are punctual and willing to learn. Many stores prefer a careful fresher over an experienced person with a poor attitude.
Should I pay for the interview or training?
No. A genuine employer does not take money for an interview, training or a uniform. If someone asks, do not pay and report it.
